Welcome to Term 4. I hope you have all enjoyed the school holiday break.
This is the Term that moves VERY fast as we head towards the end of the year. It is undoubtedly one of the busiest school terms with many events to look forward to. So please keep an eye out for all newsletters and upcoming Skoolbag notifications to help keep you informed about what is coming up.
Remember to keep scrolling down…! Our learners are amazing! You will see in the Newsletter how they are exceling in a range of activities. We are so proud!
News! Congratulations to Lara Richardson (Teacher PE) and her husband who became parents to a little girl, Halle.
Important! Please ensure all school invoices are completely paid in full so that it is not added to the next invoice and the number gets bigger and bigger and less manageable.
We are currently welcoming visits from our 2019 Kindergarten enrolments with transition days and parent information sessions. If you see a new face in the playground, please take the time to say ‘Hi’, it could be a new member to our school or just one you haven’t seen yet.
Enjoy your week!

Tell Them From Me: Partners in Learning Survey Closing on 26 October
We are inviting all parents and carers to participate in the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. The feedback provided through this survey is used to make improvements and inform school planning. This survey complements the TTFM student surveys, which focus on student engagement, wellbeing and effective teaching practices
Why should I participate?
Parents and carers are an important and valued part of our school community. South Coogee Public School uses survey feedback to make practical improvements and inform school planning.
What does it involve?
This online survey takes about 15 minutes to complete. It is anonymous and voluntary.
If you have more than one child at this school, and feel that your children’s experiences differ, you can complete the survey more than once.
How can I participate?
You can access the survey in your own time, between 5 September and 26 October 2018. Follow the link below on your computer or tablet:
More information on the Partners in Learning survey can be found on the NSW Department of Educations’ TTFM website: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/
Class of the Week – KN
2018 has certainly been a busy year for KN.
The students have settled into life at South Coogee Public School with great maturity.
They have made new friends, learned routines and developed some independence.
KN love their Literacy Group rotations as part of the morning Literacy Block. They have been doing Guided Reading with Mrs Ninyo, phoneme work, reading games and using the iPads for comprehension work.
Their reading and writing progress has been amazing this year. Most of the class are now facing their fears of making a mistake and are writing simple sentences about everything they do in class.
We have been on a few excursions but KN agreed the farm in Term 3 was our favourite. We patted the baby animals and milked a cow.
In Term 3 we had our STEM lesson. We had to design a model of the Eiffel Tower and then build it out of aluminium foil.
The highlight for our return to KN in Term 4 was seeing the amazing growth of our sunflower seedlings to strong plants.
Congratulations to the Boys A and Girls A cricket teams who won recently at the zone Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup held at Maroubra (some images from the day are below). They will now be playing in the Sydney East Woolworths Cricket Blast school cup regional final being held at Evatt Park, Lugarno on the 25th October. Permission notes will be put on Caremonkey this week.
There will be cricket training on Wednesday 24th October 8.10am in preparation for the Regional final.

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term!
Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foundation for 35 years. It’s a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs.
Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than $75 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work.
It’s important you register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow the link below to get started.
Students will be skipping throughout the term in PE lessons and during recess and lunch breaks. During this time you can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.
We will hold our school Jump Off Day on Tuesday 13th November, this will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills.
Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!

There were more than 10 students in the competition. Jack’s performance was good enough to win him Highly Commended/2nd place in this competition. His topic was “What I love about Science”. Jack was excited to do the impromptu speech about “balloons”.
Iara C from 1/2M also represented South Coogee Public School, but in the Stage 1 competition. She also won Highly Commended/2nd place for her presentation on “Playing Inside is Better Than Playing Outside”, and the impromptu topic of “Celebration”.
